"malae" is the word in Tetum language that designates all who were not born on the island of Timor.
Every weekend, dozens of "malae" lay the Tutuala path, just to go to the legendary beach of Jaco.
Jaco is an islet, three hundred meters away from the eastern point of the island of Timor. It's holy ground, there are no houses, only the gods live there. But paying 6 dollars per person, we "malae" are allowed to go there and stay during the day.
"Malae" é a palavra em língua tétum que designa todos os que não nasceram na ilha de Timor. Todos os fins-de-semana, dezenas de "malae" põem-se a caminho de Tutuala, apenas para irem a uma praia lendária: Jaco.
Jaco é um ilhéu trezentos metros afastado da ponta leste da ilha de Timor. É chão sagrado, ali não há casas, apenas os deuses lá moram. Mas a troco de 6 dólares por cabeça, os "malae" são autorizados a passar lá o dia.
